Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was Donald Trump’s closest rival for the Republican nomination last year, and now that Trump is in the White House, he worries that one particular Democrat will topple him because of what he sees.
“If we screw all this up, you better believe the American people could elect President Elizabeth Warren,” Cruz told the Texas Tribune.
Warren’s threat to Republicans is only part of the problem as Cruz sees it, because to him, Trump’s White House is screwing this up.
“Those voices in the White House that are trying to get the White House to unload on conservatives, to unload on the Freedom Caucus, are doing the bidding of the left,” Cruz added.
It isn’t the lack of accomplishments that troubles Cruz or the inhumane policies that are a cornerstone of his own agenda, but the infighting. The tea party hardliner believes that “if we deliver on all this, it doesn’t matter who they nominate — we win.”
So far, however, the Republicans have not come close to delivering on anything that the people are asking for. Trump’s promise to add jobs has led to losses, his wall has become unpopular even among his base, two Muslim bans have been ruled unconstitutional, and his attempted theft of 24 million Americans’ healthcare imploded in spectacular fashion.
On the flip-side, Elizabeth Warren has been a consistent and powerful voice for the values and priorities of the American people. Or, in the words of Cruz:
“I think it is likely to be Elizabeth Warren.”
