Trump Just Used 9/11 To Brag About His Ratings

Today, President Donald Trump did what should be the unthinkable to every patriotic American: he reduced 9/11 to the television ratings its coverage got. In an interview with the Associated Press, Trump blathered on about how his presence on Sunday news shows improves the shows’ ratings.

Shocking. The unpredictable, conspiracy theorist president appears on television, and more people watch television. However for Trump, who has never gotten past his glory days as a reality TV host, ratings matter more than anything else in the world (except maybe money).

Trump bragged first about his appearance on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, which was viewed by 9.2 million people. Then, he continued to discuss his appearance on CBS’s John Dickerson’s show ‘Face the Nation,’ which was watched by 5.2 million viewers.

This was not, however, a normal Trump boast. Trump’s ratings on Sunday came close to the ratings news shows saw for their coverage of the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001 and he was not going to let anyone miss out on that comparison.

It had 9.2 million people. It’s the highest they’ve ever had. On any, on air, [CBS’s John] Dickerson had 5.2 million people.

“It’s the highest for ‘Face the Nation’ or as I call it, ‘Deface the Nation’. It’s the highest for ‘Deface the Nation’ since the World Trade Center. Since the World Trade Center came down. It’s a tremendous advantage.

Apparently Trump thinks he is the next best thing to America’s most devastating terror attack.

On 9/11/2001, 2,977 innocent people lost their lives; 75 of the dead were heroic first responders who sacrificed their lives rescuing civilians from the fire and wreckage. Over 6,000 Americans were injured.

That day change America forever as the country came together to grieve and try to reconcile itself with the horror of the attacks. Trump, it seems, is one of the few people left unchanged.

A man who has no respect for 9/11 and the many Americans that lost their lives has no place in the White House. If Trump loves ratings so much, he can go back to starring on reality TV and the rest of us can go back to having a decent, functioning government.
