After House Republicans voted 217 to 212 in favor of repealing and replacing Obamacare, former Vice President Joe Biden responded. Known always to be a straight-talker, he did not stray in his response:
Day of shame in Congress. Protections for pre-existing conditions, mental health, maternity care, addiction services — all gone.
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) May 4, 2017
Millions of Americans will lose coverage. Up to the Senate now. Hoping for courage to return.

Biden took the vote particularly hard in that his son, Beau, passed away in 2015 after a long battle with brain cancer. Biden’s daughter and wife also passed away years earlier.
While Biden’s tweets are despairing, he does note that full repeal will not move forward without the Senate’s approval. Biden calls for a return of “courage;” anyone can cower to party leaders seeking a vote along party lines, but true leaders will stand up for their constituents – for what is right – instead of the bureaucrats in Washington.
Congress can still fix this.
