White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer just released a statement that Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey:

Trump sent the FBI director the following letter:

Comey has come under fierce criticism recently, with many accusing him of interfering in the election, and contributing to Trump’s win. Despite this fact, Trump has been less than enthusiastic about him.
This firing comes right after news that Comey gave incorrect information on Huma Abedin’s emails. It appears the White House will use this as a transparent pretext for the firing.
The firing will certainly throw the FBI into disarray, and make any further investigation into Trump’s Russian connections far more difficult.
