The most recent episode of Keith Olbermann’s online show “The Resistance” discussed the testimony given yesterday by former Acting Attorney General, Sally Yates – the woman who sounded the alarm about Russian infiltration in the Trump Administration but was ignored. (Yates was fired by the Donald Trump Administration when she refused to countenance his unconstitutional Muslim ban.)
Yates testified about the treachery of Trump’s disgraced former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn. Flynn was forced to resign when the Trump team could no longer conceal that Flynn had had illegal communications with the Russian ambassador during the transition and deliberately deceived Vice President Mike Pence about his actions.
Flynn espoused virulently pro-Russian views and clearly compromised Trump’s foreign policy.
Olbermann rightly called Yates an “American hero” for her brave testimony in front of a Congressional committee that shed light on the appalling Flynn scandal.
He continued, “In the era of Trump, she stands out like a champion.” Yates stood up to her new boss when she learned of Flynn’s illegal contacts with the Russian ambassador, and again when she refused to misuse the Justice Department to defend the illegal Muslim ban. She truly is a hero and a champion of what is right.
Then, Olbermann set his sights on Trump, the man who has let his Administration be engulfed in scandal and refused to take action against foreign interference in the election, his transition, and then his own Administration:
“You are the goddamn president of the goddamn United States, and your acting attorney general tells your White House counsel that your national security adviser was ‘compromised’ with respect to the Russians…and you don’t want him to be in a position where the Russians have leverage over him. And you fire the acting attorney general ― not the national security adviser?
“Which are you ― an idiot or a traitor?”
An excellent question and one that the Trump team has been struggling to answer since the campaign. Are they just stupid, or are they part of a grander nefarious scheme? Most likely they are a group of idiots who have let themselves be manipulated by foreign powers who know that Trump just can’t resist the seductive pull of cash.
Our country’s security and dignity are being sold out because Trump allowed his campaign to be infiltrated by Russia surrogates. In normal times this would be blatantly obvious that this is an impeachable offense.
This is not normal. The resistance must hold Republicans accountable and end their despicable partisanship that is threatening the integrity of our great nation.
