Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) has never been one to withhold her opinions, especially when it comes to President Trump. The trait has endeared her to millions of young progressives nationwide and earned her the nickname, “Auntie Maxine.”
If people like what Waters has been saying, they will love her latest comments about Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart (Video and audio below.)
“I think he’s a racist, I think he’s a throwback, and I don’t mind saying it any day of the week,” Waters said of Sessions. She issued a rallying cry to activists, saying:
“I think that Jeff Sessions is very dangerous … and I think that he absolutely believes that it’s his job to keep minorities in their place. And so I think we have to watch him, we have to keep an eye on him, and be prepared to push back.”
Of Trump, she was no less pointed, telling Capehart, “This man has no good values. … He’s indecent.
“He’s a person that certainly cannot be a role model for our children or for anybody else. The fact that he is the president of the United States is dangerous for us all.”
As to why Waters continues to speak out so forcefully, Waters said she felt it was a responsibility.
“I’m so offended by this president that I think it requires me to speak truth to power, to say it like it is and to be as honest as I possibly can about what I think about him being the president of this country.”
In the below video, Waters also delivered a blunt argument for the need to impeach a president who “colluded with the Russians, with the Kremlin… to undermine our election system and thus undermine our democracy.”
Capehart’s podcast, Cape Up, including Waters’ remarks about Sessions, can be heard in its entirety here:
The Trump regime has given us every indication that they will continue to pursue its reckless, racist, self-destructive agenda as long as they are able. And as long as they do, we can be sure Auntie Maxine will be fighting back and speaking truth to power.
