After Seth Meyers ran a segment last week calling out Speaker of the House Paul Ryan for ramming through Trumpcare with the very same tactics he blasted President Obama for eight years ago, the Speaker spoke up. This week, he is almost certainly regretting it. (Video below.)
During last night’s “A Closer Look,” the Late Night host said that the show received an email from Ryan’s office, “And unlike Republicans and their health care bill, we actually read the whole e-mail.”
Meyers went through the Republican’s characterization of the law and debunked the lies, one-by-one, in hilarious fashion. The comedian thoroughly dismantled the assertion that the bill was not rushed before Members could read it, the illusion that it is not simply a tax cut for the rich, and the idea that preexisting conditions are protected.
While it is an act of cowardice, Representatives who voted for Trumpcare have avoided their constituents for a reason. They cannot defend the indefensible.
Speaker Ryan’s first mistake was to support an immoral bill that would strip millions of Americans their health coverage and kill tens of thousands per year. His second mistake was to pick a fight with Seth Meyers over facts that are not on his side.
The comedian defeated the Speaker in a knock-out, and a hilarious one at that.
Meyers’ takedown of Ryan begins at the three-minute mark in the video below.
