New acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe is already creating problems for the Trump administration. After firing Director James Comey, Trump no doubt hoped the investigation into his Russian connections would disperse. His hopes have been dashed.
McCabe just refuted the White House lie that Comey was disliked and mistrusted within the Bureau. According to McCabe, Comey had “broad support” within the FBI.
“I can confidently tell you that the vast majority of employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey,” he said. Now, the acting Director has taken another step to infuriate Trump.
Director McCabe says the FBI will continue its Trump/Russia investigation, but will not update the White House.
Trump, in his letter to Comey, thanked Comey for informing him on “three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation.” It seems like Trump was blatantly lying, as Comey had previously testified under oath that the FBI was investigating Trump’s campaign ties to Russia. Furthermore, it seems very unlikely that Comey, a stickler for the rules, would have told Trump about an ongoing investigation.
Furthermore, McCabe refuted the White House lie that the Russian investigation is “one of the smallest things on the plate of the FBI.” McCabe said in reality, it’s a “highly significant investigation.”

The new acting Director is off to a great start. Trump has backed himself into a corner with all these lies and they’re starting to unravel.
