As news broke today that Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador, yet another Trump tweet has resurfaced that has most decidedly not aged well:
Crooked Hillary Clinton and her team "were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information." Not fit!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 6, 2016
In July of 2016, at the conclusion of the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server to conduct government business, then-FBI Director James Comey revealed that he would not recommend charges against her. He also conceded that she was “extremely careless” in the way she handled sensitive government information. A reprimand, yes, but hardly the career-ending jailing Trump had hoped for.
If Trump was so convinced, though, that Hillary’s use of a private e-mail server was disqualifying enough to brand her “not fit” for the Presidency, I can only imagine how he would describe someone who leaked top secret information to an adversarial foreign power, information that even our closest allies were not privileged to. “Not fit” would most likely be an understatement.
As the White House scrambles to contain the damage that Trump has – yet again – caused, Americans can bear witness first hand to Trump’s cozy relationship with the Kremlin. Despite our President’s infatuation with their autocratic ruler, Russia is by no means an ally. And after today’s bombshell announcement, Trump has proven that he is “Not fit!” to be President.
