Along with the President, Melania and Ivanka Trump landed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today, but their arrival was highlighted by the absence of headscarves. In 2015, Trump posted yet another tweet that decidedly did not age well.
Many people are saying it was wonderful that Mrs. Obama refused to wear a scarf in Saudi Arabia, but they were insulted. We have enuf enemies
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2015
After President Obama and his wife, Michelle, visited Saudi Arabia in 2015, Trump criticized the First Lady for “insulting” the Saudis. ”We have enuf enemies,” Trump wrote, misspelling the word “enough” in the same way that a 9-year-old would.
At the time, Michelle Obama was only the latest in a long line of female leaders to forego the traditional garb; former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former first lady Laura Bush, British Prime Minister Theresa May, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had all skipped out on the headscarf during their own visits.
Trump has a special proclivity for writing tweets that come back to haunt him, highlighting his unparalleled hypocrisy with nearly every topic he broaches. In terms of his shameless duplicity, I can only say that we’ve have “enuf.”
