A third member of President Trump’s administration was just exposed for lying about contacts with Russian officials on his application for a security clearance.
CNN reports that our racist Attorney General, Jeff Sessions failed to disclose his two meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak on his security clearance form in addition to failing to disclose them during his Senate confirmation hearing, in essence committing perjury for a second time.
Perjury, of course, is punishable by fines and or five years of prison time, but it’s not likely that the head of the Justice Department is willing to investigate or charge himself.
Sessions has argued that he tried to disclose the ambassadors he met in his capacity as Senator of Alabama on his form but was “told by the FBI” that he didn’t need to do so because they were part of official business.
However, Washington attorney Mark Zaid told a very different story to CNN: “My interpretation is that a member of Congress would still have to reveal the appropriate foreign government contacts notwithstanding it was on official business.”
Since Sessions’ private meetings with Kislyak were held in his office as part of a conspiracy to subvert the electoral integrity of the United States and not as part of a larger diplomatic conference or official capacity, he definitely should have disclosed the meetings on his security clearance application.
Sessions joins both White House advisor Jared Kushner and disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn on the shameful list of Trump hires who have lied on their security application forms about their meetings with Ambassador Kislyak.
For an administration that swears there’s nothing to the accusations that Trump and his cronies colluded with the Russian Federation in order to tilt the election in his favor, his appointees are certainly going to great lengths to avoid disclosing their meetings with Ambassador Kislyak, who is a known spymaster in addition to a diplomat.
In addition to being an open racist and self-admitted Klan sympathizer who appears to be intent on dragging the United States kicking and screaming back to the 1950s with his harsh prosecution of minor drug offenses and expansion of for-profit prisons, Sessions is an accessory to treason. How can we trust a man who lied under oath and on the record to oversee our nation’s judicial system?
