The Republican Party under Trump fetishises violence and despises the free press. It was only a matter before the two came together in a disgusting fashion.Ben Jacobs – a reporter for The Guardian – just Tweeted that Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate for the House Seat in Montana’s special election physically assaulted him.
The audio of the assault:
Greg Gianforte just body slammed me and broke my glasses
— Ben Jacobs (@Bencjacobs) May 24, 2017
There was a local TV crew there when Gianforte body slammed me. Audio is posting soon at @GuardianUS

Reporter Alexis Levinson was on the scene and describes it as such:
Wanted to wait a bit to tweet cause I'm not sure I've seen anything like this before
— Alexis Levinson (@alexis_levinson) May 24, 2017
This happened behind a half closed door, so I didn't see it all, but here's what it looked like from the outside –

Ben walked into a room where a local tv crew was set up for an interview with Gianforte
— Alexis Levinson (@alexis_levinson) May 24, 2017
All of a sudden I heard a giant crash and saw Ben's feet fly in the air as he hit the floor
— Alexis Levinson (@alexis_levinson) May 24, 2017
Heard very angry yelling (as did all the volunteers in the room) – sounded like Gianforte

The story is still developing, but this atrocious behavior could prove to be a killing blow to Gianforte’s campaign. Stories like this are common in countries run by violent dictators and have no place in a free and open democracy. This is truly despicable.
Audio and video will be uploaded as soon as it is available.
