When Michelle Obama was First Lady of the United States, most people know she made a priority of improving the health of the American public, especially our nation’s children. What many people don’t know is that she also led her friends to live healthier lifestyles as well, hosting bootcamp weekends for women of all levels of fitness.
Today, she told her Instagram followers that those weekends have continued. (Post and pictures below.)
Earlier this month, we were reminded that not every White House spouse demonstrates real commitment to improving people’s lives when we learned that Melania Trump had abandoned her only promise as First Lady before she ever began the effort — a pledge to combat cyberbullying.
On the flip-side, this serves as a poignant reminder of how lucky we were to have a woman of Michelle Obama’s dedication and genuine compassion as our First Lady.
It seems her friends are lucky to have her as well.

When I was at the White House, I often hosted bootcamp weekends for my close girlfriends. It didn’t matter that we were all at varying fitness levels. Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. And even though I’m no longer at the White House, I've continued this tradition and wanted to share some photos. My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years – including a pretty big one recently! – and we’ve done our best to stay healthy together. Whether it’s a bootcamp or a walk around the neighborhood, I hope you and your crew can find some time this summer to be healthy together.
