Trump’s Treasury Secretary’s Wife Just Spoke Out About Her Instagram Controversy

Yesterday, the wife of Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, Louise Linton, was thrust into the national spotlight after posting a photo of herself deplaning a U.S. Air Force jet in full high-fashion garb, tagging luxury brands Hermes and Valentino in the photo. Yet it was her patronizing, out-of-touch response to a critic’s comment that caused her such controversy.

Today, per a CNN White House reporter, Louise Linton has issued an apology for both her Instagram post and her response.

Linton’s tepid apology, however, will probably do little to compensate for her self-serving, condescending diatribe in which she misguidedly invokes a standard entitlement trope:

Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice [sic] to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day “trip” than you did… You’re adorably out of touch.

It should be noted that the woman who attacked a critic for being “adorably out of touch” captioned her photo with the following hashtags:

“Great #daytrip to #Kentucky! #nicest #people #beautiful #countryside #rolandmouret pants #tomford sunnies, #hermesscarf #valentinorockstudheels #valentino #usa”

While Linton tried to defend herself as a model public servant on the same photo that she framed as a high-class getaway on a jet supposed to be used for government travel, her apology does not land quite as she had hoped. If only she had made half the effort to apologize for her shameful behavior as she did to humiliate a stranger on the internet, it might have come across a tad more effectively.

In her defense, she was probably too busy watching the new Game of Thrones. I hear “it’s fab!”
