On the heels of Trump’s decision to implement his transgender military ban and allow for the removal of current transgender troops, Colonel Morris Davis, the former Guantanamo Chief Prosecutor and a retired Colonel, struck back at the President in no uncertain terms on Twitter.
.@realDonaldTrump, who said "hell no, I won't go" 5 times when America called upon him to serve, bans those with the bravery he lacked. Sad! https://t.co/w6WKHxAapp

The White House will issue guidance to the Defense Department on how the ban should be implemented moving forward. With regard to current transgender troops, Defense Secretary James Mattis “would have to consider a service member’s ability to deploy in deciding whether to remove them from the military,” per The Hill.

Despite Trump’s unilateral decision to push forward on issuing guidance on the ban, many top members of the military have pushed back on the move. Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer said, “On a fundamental basis, any patriot that wants to serve and meets all the requirements should be able to serve in our military.”

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft said of the transgender individuals serving in his service, “I will not turn my back. We have made an investment in you, and you have made an investment in the Coast Guard, and I will not break faith.”

Trump, for his part, sought five deferments during the Vietnam War, four for education and one medical deferment for bone spurs in his heels. The condition was, conveniently, only temporary.
While Trump’s cowardice is well-documented, the fact that he would go even further to ban others from serving is, in the President’s own words, “sad.”
