Any hopes that Trump’s bigoted ban on transgender Americans serving in the U.S. Armed forces might simply be a spur of the moment attempt to grab headlines have been dashed with the announcement that the administration is moving ahead with implementing the regressive policy.
The White House will deliver guidelines to the Pentagon on how to implement the transgender ban this week, CNN reports. The military will be ordered to stop admitting transgender people and offers criteria for expelling currently serving transgender soldiers.
Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a veteran and Purple Heart recipient who lost both legs and damaged her arm in service to the United States, just responded to the ban with a scathing statement:
Holy cow. This statement from Tammy Duckworth about Trump's transgender troops ban is worth a read. pic.twitter.com/Re2FTCAP9p

Trump himself is a multiple draft dodger and his horrible transgender ban is nothing more than an attempt to score cheap points with his bigoted base. Duckworth understands what military service is really like, and is unwilling to sit by quietly as Trump works to dismantle our armed forces.
