On the heels of Trump’s unjustifiable and misguided decision to pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt, Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake struck back at Trump’s exercise of poor judgment.
Regarding the Arpaio pardon, I would have preferred that the President honor the judicial process and let it take its course.

Flake and Trump have been engaged in a very public battle since Flake published both an op-ed in Politico entitled “My Party Is in Denial About Donald Trump” and a book entitled “Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle,” both scathing rebukes of the President.
Trump responded by attacking the Republican Senator on Twitter and boosting his primary opponent, Kelli Ward.
Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He's toxic!

While Trump continues to placate the most racist in his base with controversial moves like pardoning a corrupt law enforcement official who failed to follow the same law he was charged with upholding, he will only further abandon those who once supported him, including Senators in his own party.
