President Donald Trump stunned the nation this evening when he tried to use the cover of a Category 4 hurricane to issue a pardon for America’s most racist sheriff, Joe Arpaio, in a pandering move to his racist base and yet another dog-whistle to white supremacists across the nation that their xenophobic agenda finds favor in the White House.
The Mayor of Phoenix took to Twitter tonight to vent his displeasure with the President’s sudden pardon and the hateful message it sends to the people of our nation.
Joe Arpaio illegally targeted and terrorized Latino families. Our community voted him out of power. Donald Trump can't change that. pic.twitter.com/WZXjmXd76G

This isn’t the first time the Mayor of Phoenix has directly called out the President for his deplorable actions. When the President held his rally on Tuesday in Phoenix, where he was originally expected to pardon Arpaio, Stanton wrote a brutal op-ed in the Washington Post telling Trump that he wasn’t welcome in his city.
Trump went anyway, of course.
His latest action is a clear sign to the rest of the nation that his insincere attempts to call for “unity” and “peace” in the United States were nothing but a white hood over his real intentions.
