The Trump presidency has stalled out entirely. Tanking approval ratings, constant meltdowns, and a near mythological failure to pass any meaningful legislation continue to drag the administration down into ignominy. Millions of Americans are calling for impeachment, and it’s starting to echo through the White House.
According to a report from The Washington Post Trump’s advisers are warning him about the possibility of his impeachment. They’re urging him to strengthen his ties with Republican leaders so that they can form a firewall to protect him from the Democrats.
So far, Trump has alienated key would-be allies. Prominently, he attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Twitter, slamming him for the failure to repeal Obamacare. Trump’s fumbling attempts at cyberbullying the veteran politician succeeded in nothing but annoying McConnell.
If the Republicans turn on Trump, there will be nothing standing between him and impeachment should the Robert Mueller probe yield actionable information. Judging from Trump’s mercurial and egotistic behavior though, it seems unlikely that he’ll course correct properly.
A smarter man would recognize that the entire country has turned against him, and begin to shore up his coalition. Instead, Trump is ruled by his id, and it will his undoing. McConnell and his Republican lapdogs will likely keep Donald in the Oval Office until they decide it no longer suits their interests, then oust him and install Vice President Mike Pence behind the Resolute desk.
