The Trump Administration Just Admitted A Grave Error In Its Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

Many people were extremely worried about how the incompetent, understaffed, and perpetually unstable Trump administration was going to handle their first major natural disaster. Lives are on the line – would Trump’s “well-oiled machine” be able to cope?

It appears the answer is no. The Pentagon grudgingly admitted today that they have drastically inflated the number of troops they’ve sent to Texas to help with relief efforts – by five thousand.

CNN reports that the “US Northern Command said that the US military had deployed more than 6,300 active duty troops, but in fact, the number of troops was actually 1,638 as of 7 a.m. ET Friday.”

The discrepancy is apparently due to an “accounting” error, counting National Guard units as active-duty troops.

“There was an accounting error in the numbers that were provided yesterday,” Army Lt. Col. Jamie Davis said in a statement. “In a fast-moving response such as this, some people were inadvertently double-counted on a spreadsheet. We have corrected our process to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

While thankfully this mistake doesn’t appear to have affected the operations on the ground, it’s very disturbing to see this administration make such an enormous mistake in such a critical situation.
