As Chief of Staff General John Kelly tries to restore order to a chaotic White House, he’s tried to restrict the people who have access to Trump and bring him provocative news from dubious sources that wind up infuriating the president and driving him off message.
Now, a new report from The Daily Beast reveals that Kelly has banned Trump insider and former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigualt from speaking with the president because she allegedly works Trump into a lather over unfavorable news stories.
Apparently, before Kelly took over as Chief of Staff, it was fairly common for senior administration staff members to walk into Trump’s office unbidden and give him the latest negative press coverage which invariably would send the president into a raging fury for the rest of the day. White House insiders claim that Omarosa was one of the worst offenders in this regard.
“When Gen. Kelly is talking about clamping down on access to the Oval, she’s patient zero,” a source close to the Trump administration said.”
While stories of palace intrigue are always interesting in their revelation of the inner workings of a dysfunctional administration, Kelly’s banning of certain staff from accessing the president reportedly will have only limited effectiveness, since Trump is known to simply call his inner circle at all hours of the day or night to speak with them directly no matter what his Chief of Staff thinks is best.
Since Omarosa’s relationship with Trump predates his candidacy, she, like other longtime advisors, is extremely disturbed about being restricted.
“She’s not happy about it,” another White House source said. “She has a bond that goes back years with [Trump] and resents being cut off like everyone has.”
While Omarosa previously worked in the Clinton administration for a brief period where she was considered extremely difficult to work with and was a supporter of President Obama, her loyalty to Trump has led to some seriously questionable behavior including warning reporters that they were on an enemies watch list.
The big question now remains who will leave first, Omarosa and other Trump confidants or the former Marine general who is trying to bring a semblance of order to the shambles the administration has driven itself into.
