In an uncharacteristic move, Trump has taken the first step towards donating the promised $1 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. It’s the absolute least a man of his wealth — who pretends to care about his fellow Americans— can do, given the utter devastation visited on Texas and Louisiana. It is worth noting that $1 million to those in need is far less than the $5 million he previously offered for proof that President Obama’s was born in the United States.
However, a cursory look at the list of charities Trump has chosen reveals that even during times like this he can’t resist the urge to engage in blatant cronyism. Samaritan’s Purse, a recipient of $100,000, is run by a staunch Trump supporter named Frank Graham who previously stated that Trump was chosen by God to be president, Alex Kotch of International Business Times pointed out.
Samaritan's Purse is the organization run by Franklin Graham, who proclaimed that god put Trump in the White House. https://t.co/AxLNWnFS4K

Trump is now using his hurricane donations as a means of funneling money to an organization run by one of his acolytes, as well as a way to shore up his support amongst his Evangelical base in the wake of his tanking poll numbers.
To give a little more idea of the kind of man Frank Graham is, he has fought against the legalization of same-sex marriage and also spread rumors that President Barack Obama was secretly Muslim. Graham faced widespread criticism after asserting that Islam is “very evil and wicked.” In other words, he’s exactly the kind of dishonest person that Trump gravitates towards.
