Chelsea Clinton Just Shared An Article Drawing Parallels Between Trump And Hitler

Chelsea Clinton has just retweeted a clip of a thoroughly researched and credibly written article by Jelani Cobb in the New Yorker that demonstrates how Trump’s discriminatory “travels bans” and controversial decision to end DACA bear striking similarities to policies favored by genocidal monster Adolf Hitler.

Jacob S. Rugh, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Brigham Young University, originally posted the tweet that Ms. Clinton shared.

In the piece, Mr. Cobb compares Trump ending DACA with the U.S. Immigration Act of 1924, exacting quotas on immigrants from specific countries, and completely excluding immigrants from Asia.

The travel ban on people from certain Muslim countries appears to have similar roots. The New Yorker article points out that Hitler cited the Immigration Act as a model for his policies.

And Cobb takes the matter further, saying that Trump’s mantra of “Make America Great Again” in fact means “make America white again,” as he proceeds to implement one policy after another that smacks of the Immigration Act, as well as pardoning racist Sheriff Arpaio and calling Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville “very fine people.”

By sharing Prof. Rugh’s tweet, Chelsea Clinton demonstrates that she agrees with the article’s thesis — Trump is enforcing policies that harken back to some of American history’s darkest periods.

And that history tragically extended beyond our own borders, inspiring the most hatefully genocidal dictator of all time, Adolf Hitler, as he explicitly stated in Mein Kampf: “The American Union categorically refuses immigration of unhealthy elements, and simply excludes the immigration of certain races.”  Mr. Cobb’s article goes on to say:

This, he said, made the country a leader in preserving racial purity through immigration policy. The Johnson-Reed Act largely held sway for forty-one years, until, amid the democratizing ethos of the civil-rights era, immigration policy fully shed the racial engineering that had previously defined it. This is the world that Trump seems to be attempting to resurrect.

If the same ideology motivates Trump’s policies as motivated Hitler’s, then we must learn from history and stop it from repeating itself before it starts.
