Special Counsel Mueller Just Escalated His Investigation After Don Jr.’s Testimony Today
This morning, Donald Trump Jr. admitted what most of us already knew about the meeting he orchestrated in June, 2016 between the Trump campaign and Russian officials: his intent was to get dirt on Hillary Clinton, and he already suspected that it could be illegal.
While leaked emails from Trump Jr. confirmed those facts early this summer, today’s admission has Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller asking questions about Trump Jr.’s June statement claiming that the subject of the meeting “primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children.”
According to three White House sources, CNN reports that Mueller is now asking to speak with Trump staffers who were on Air Force One when the false statement was drafted.
That appears to be very bad news for President Trump because multiple people present for the message’s drafting have reported that the Commander-in-Chief dictated the lie himself.
With each new piece of evidence, that false statement appears increasingly to be a critical piece of a coverup into cooperation, if not collusion, between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign to win last year’s Presidential Election. With this revelation we know that this fact has not escaped Mueller and his investigative team, and they are acting accordingly.
As to what crimes were committed, we cannot yet be entirely sure. But there can now be no question that there was a coverup, and the trail now being followed by Special Prosecutor Mueller leads directly to the President of the United States.
