A Chicago man who made headlines after a video of him going on a racist rant against a black person who accidentally spilled coffee on him went viral has just learned the hard way that there are sometimes consequences for hate speech in America.
On June 6th, William “Billy” Boucher was at a Starbucks when a black man accidentally knocked into him and spilled some coffee on him.
Rather than just accepting his apology and going on with his day like a normal person, Boucher grew furious and began screaming at the man, calling him “vermin” and a “slave” before hitting and spitting on him. “Get on all fours! Do not walk on those two legs! You don’t deserve to walk on two legs, vermin.”
Boucher decided to ignore his court appearance, which did not impress the authorities. In response, a warrant has been issued for his arrest and his charges have been upgraded from misdemeanor battery to felony hate crime.
It’s upsetting to hear that it took his missed court appearance to prompt the addition of hate crimes for a man who called a black man “livestock,” but if anybody deserves it, it’s this guy.
