White House: Now ‘Isn’t The Time’ To Talk Climate Change. Miami Mayor’s Response Is Perfect

President Trump’s administration has been characterized by an astonishingly irresponsible hostility to science and a stubborn refusal to acknowledge the interminably worsening effects of man-made climate change.

As the United States prepares to deal with the onset of yet another enormously powerful hurricane, the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency chief and fossil fuel lobbyist Scott Pruitt weakly argued that now is “not the time to talk about climate change.”

The dodge is typical of Republican reactions to the consequences of any of their mindlessly destructive policies, reminiscent of the “don’t politicize a tragedy” and “thoughts and prayers” they spout after every mass shooting made possible by the reckless proliferation of firearms.

But the Mayor of Miami has a very different idea about when the time to talk about climate change is.

“This is the time to talk about climate change. This is the time that the president and the EPA and whoever makes decisions needs to talk about climate change. If this isn’t climate change, I don’t know what is. This is a truly, truly poster child for what is to come” said Tomás Regalado to the Miami Herald in a Friday interview.

The Republican’s public stand against the Trump administration comes at a crucial time. Hurricane Irma is strengthening as it bears down on Florida as five million people evacuate in what is to be the first of many climate-induced mass migrations in America.

Unless we start taking serious action to combat the onset of climate change as soon as possible, the consequences are going to be unimaginably dire.
