In a gross display of xenophobia and lack of compassion, Trump waited three days before calling the President of Mexico to offer support and condolences in the wake the earthquake and hurricane that recently hit our southern neighbor. The failure must be looked at in light of Trump’s repeated rhetorical attacks on Mexico.
Hearing the criticisms of his behavior, Trump finally tried to explain what happened, and gave a terrible excuse, by pretending that he was unable to reach President Peña Nieto on the phone. It’s a fib befitting a cheating spouse or a girl dodging an unwanted suitor, not something the president should be saying.
Spoke to President of Mexico to give condolences on terrible earthquake. Unable to reach for 3 days b/c of his cell phone reception at site.

Seeing the inane explanation, President George W. Bush’s former speechwriter and vocal Trump critic took to Twitter to mock the president by implying that Trump hadn’t been able to reach Peña Nieto because the Mexican leader was screening his calls.
Um, you believed that? https://t.co/FNbpMbLq8C

Regardless of one’s thoughts on Frum and his hand in the Bush administration, it’s good to see Republicans attacking our GOP president. Trump deserves no respect from the left or the right. The sooner the rest of the conservatives reject our reality television star leader, the sooner our country can return to some semblance of sanity.
