The second round of Democratic debates was held last night and showcased a bevy of capable candidates ready to take on the current incompetent occupant of the Oval Office. Senator Kamala Harris of California stole the show, dazzling with her confidence and charm, but Mayor Buttigieg also had some standout moments that managed to impress.
Current frontrunner, former Vice President Joe Biden, didn’t exactly flop, but the buzz around him coming out of the debate has largely ranged from underwhelming to less than good. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, another leading candidate, seemed tired and failed to dominate the stage as some expected.
All of that aside, and regardless of what one thought of the individual performances, one thing was clear: every single person on stage would make a vastly better president than Donald Trump. It was, of course, only a matter of time before the man himself weighed in using his favorite social media site.
Trump took to Twitter to announce that he is in Japan at the G20 busy “representing our country well” currently — a blatant lie, given that he has already managed to dismiss Russian interference as a joke and pal around with Putin about “getting rid of journalists” — and that he has heard about the debate.
The president said that “Sleepy Joe” and “Crazy Bernie” did not have a “good day” at the debate. While admittedly, Biden and Sanders did not have their best performances to date, Biden came across as fired up not sleepy, and Bernie sounded as sane as ever. Trump alleged that one was “exhausted” and the other “nuts” which is a rich accusation coming from a man seems to be losing his mental facilities by the day.
He ended by asking “so what’s the big deal?” which doesn’t even really make sense. Is he saying that it doesn’t matter if Biden is sleepy and Sanders is crazy? If so, he’d be correct. Even if both men fit the dishonest descriptions he’s smeared them with, they’d still both make better presidents than him. Trump would be right to be worried, we are coming for the White House.
I am in Japan at the G-20, representing our Country well, but I heard it was not a good day for Sleepy Joe or Crazy Bernie. One is exhausted, the other is nuts – so what’s the big deal?
