Trump questions if Americans are “dumb enough” to believe he made secret promise to foreign leader on phone

Furious speculation is flying around Washington today in the wake of yesterday’s bombshell Washington Post report. It has been revealed that a whistleblower complaint within the intelligence community is being actively suppressed by the Trump administration. Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire is refusing to hand over the information, according to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) despite the fact that he is obligated to do so.
According to reports, the whistleblower’s complaint outlines some kind of disturbing “promise” that Trump made to an anonymous foreign leader. Whatever the president said to this world leader was so “troubling” that the whistleblower decided to file a formal complaint. Another official told the Post that the conversation in question occurred during a phone call. While details are still vague, the very fact that DNI Maguire is refusing to obey the law and hand over the information seems to indicate whatever the promise was it could be incredibly damaging to the administration.
This morning, Trump took to Twitter to address the story, slamming it as “Fake News.” The president went on to say that when he speaks with foreign leaders on the phone he understands that there “may be many people listening from various U.S. agencies, not to mention those from the other country itself.”
Trump questioned whether anyone could actually be “dumb enough” to believe he would say “something inappropriate” with a foreign leader during “such a potentially ‘heavily populated’ call.” He ended the little Twitter outburst by insisting that he only ever does what is “right” and that he is only interested in doing “good for the USA,” two things which are demonstrably untrue. Donald Trump cares only about Donald Trump, a reality he proves with every word and action.
While he is correct about intelligence agencies monitoring calls, he is not a man who has ever been known for his caution. Just because he is acutely aware of intelligence monitoring now doesn’t mean that he was when the call in question happened. It’s also possible that, given his penchant for rash, dangerous behavior, he simply wasn’t worried being listened in on. After all, this is a man who conducts foreign policy via Twitter on his phone. He’s clearly not terribly worried about information security of any kind.

The more one considers it, the more unsettling this story becomes. The American people have a right to know what was promised during that call.
Another Fake News story out there – It never ends! Virtually anytime I speak on the phone to a foreign leader, I understand that there may be many people listening from various U.S. agencies, not to mention those from the other country itself. No problem!

….Knowing all of this, is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader while on such a potentially “heavily populated” call. I would only do what is right anyway, and only do good for the USA!
