Donald Trump once again sank to a new low when, late last night, he took to Twitter to mock 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg. Fox News and some of the lesser conservative propaganda outlets have been working themselves into a frenzy over Thunberg, presumably because the fossil fuel companies they shill for are worried that Thunberg could hurt their profits with her crusade to save the planet for future generations. Trump almost certainly saw this rabid coverage and decided it was time to throw some red meat to his unhinged, howling fans by attacking and belittling the child.
The president shared an emotional clip of Thunberg beseeching world leaders at the United Nations to take action and bluntly telling them that their failure to do so is akin to stealing “her dreams and her childhood.” It was a powerful moment.
Trump sarcastically commented that Thunberg looks like a “very happy young girl” with a “wonderful future ahead” and that it’s “so nice to see!” By reveling in her emotional distress and disregarding her important message, the president proved once again that he is both unwilling to and incapable of tackling the existential threat of climate change. This man is content to sit in bed and lob insults at children through his phone as the world falls apart around us. There are not yet words invented to adequately describe this historically monstrous creature.
Thankfully, the world is not entirely composed of nihilistic goons like Trump and his cruel tweet was immediately besieged by outraged Twitter users. Some cames to Thunberg’s defense while others went right at Trump, mocking him in retaliation. Given the president’s odious behavior, even the meanest insults were deserved.
Check out some of the best ones below.
She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see! https://t.co/1tQG6QcVKO

While you mock her, she's drawing far bigger crowds than you could ever hope to.#BeBest

Way to #bebest. I guess you don’t like children unless they’re in a dressing room at a pageant.

A brilliant child who cares about her future and the future of every living thing. A child who knows the facts- the grim realities and still has hope. A child with absolute integrity. No one expects you to understand. Tragic.

She’s far more articulate and on point then anyone in your circle including the “be best” queen. And naturally waaaaaay smarter then you.

You and I will be gone when kids her age are suffering on a planet devastated by climate change caused by the greed and corruption of the 1%.
Shame on you for mocking her.

And she's gonna win a Nobel Prize.
Unlike elections and Republicans, those can't be bought.

The way she looked at you sums up the way intelligent people all over the world feel about you, Donald. She sees you for exactly what you are. And you know she's right.#GretaThunbergOutdidTrump #Greta4NobelPrize

You’re mocking @GretaThunberg?Angry at and jealous of a 16-year-old girl? Because, unlike you, she’s smart, loved, respected and has a #NobelPeacePrize. You’re a sociopath… and your crippling insecurities and self-loathing is eating you alive… #Trump #GretaThunberg
