A New York ex-prosecutor predicts criminal charges for Rudy Giuliani over Ukraine scandal

The hunter may soon become the hunted as former federal prosecutor Rudolph “the red-faced personal attorney to the president” Giuliani begins to face the consequences of his now-exposed secret mission to the Ukrainian government to trade U.S. military assistance for a bogus corruption investigation of former Vice-President Joe Biden and his son Hunter in an attempt to gain an advantage in the 2020 presidential race.

That’s certainly the opinion of one of Giuliani’s former colleagues in the office of the federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, John Flannery, who appeared on MSNBC with host Alex Witt today.

Flannery told Witt that he believes that Trump’s rogue personal attorney will face criminal charges for his actions lobbying Ukranian officials in conjunction with the ever-growing scandal that has finally brought about the beginnings of a formal impeachment investigation against the president. The former SDNY prosecutor also mentioned that he is not alone in his opinion as many of the other prosecutors who served alongside the wild-eyed TV lawyer also believe that he has violated the law with his international efforts on behalf of Trump.

“It’s been a long time coming, the levels of disappointment with Rudy,” Flannery admitted. “When I first knew him, I thought he was the kind of fellow we would find on the Supreme Court in his Bobby Kennedy days before he went to Washington. Now I see a guy who should be arrested for impersonating a criminal defense attorney.”

“I’m sorely disapointed because it appears he’s committing violations against the security, the national security of this nation while pretending to be a hero,” Flannery pointed out.

When Alex Witt pressed Flannery about the ex-New York mayor’s own legal jeopardy, the former federal attorney had a ready answer.

“Absolutely, ” Flannery replied immediately. “We have a combination of bribery, we have the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act at risk here because we’re paying a favor, withholding funds and expecting a condition precedent that favors the president favorably before the funds are given, and we also have efforts to conceal the very document we had in this conversation by people in the White House,” he summed up the predicments that both Giuliani and his client, the president, will be facing.

“We have the State Department involved, we have the Justice Department involved,” he continued. “This is a major scandal and hopefully by Halloween, we’ll figure out how to identify the articles of impeachment that correspond to this misconduct.”

The opinions of former federal prosecutors can certainly inform the general public about how the government would have viewed this type of conduct before the Justice Department was infected by Trump stooge Attorney General William Barr — who himself has been implicated in the Ukraine scandal — and those who were not politically supportive of the current presidency and its contempt for the rule of law were sidelined.

This perspective does not bode well for the president or any of his henchmen as the facts behind the scandal unfold in the weeks ahead.

If Flannery’s prediction is correct we may have something other than candy to look forward to this Halloween.
