Ivanka tries to use a Jefferson quote to defend Trump and accidentally makes him look guilty

It’s fairly well-established at this point that the Trump children are not exactly the brightest bulbs on the tree, but every so often they’ll stick their heads out of their protective bubbles and leave onlookers astonished with the stupidity and utter lack of self-awareness that they bring to the table.

A few weeks ago, it was Eric Trump who was a laughingstock after publishing an op-ed in which he quoted Marcus Aurelius — not the Roman emperor, but the character from the movie Gladiator.

Last night, it was Donald Trump Jr., an executive at his father’s business empire, who claimed that he “wished he was Hunter Biden so that he could get rich off his father’s name.

Add your name to tell Congress to investigate Pence for his role in Trump’s Ukraine corruption. The VP is complicit!

Today, it was Ivanka Trump’s turn. Not to be outdone by her brothers, the White House “advisor” took to Twitter to issue what she certainly thought was a patriotic defense of her father, quoting a letter from our nation’s third president Thomas Jefferson to his daughter in which he complains that he is “…surrounded by enemies and spies catching and perverting every word that falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them.”

She finished by adding “some things never change” in an attempt to promote her father’s narrative that he is the victim of false allegations and a conspiracy by his enemies.

Of course, if Ivanka Trump had bothered to pay attention in history class or even do one cursory google search about the quote she was using, she would have known that Thomas Jefferson was pulling the “fake news” defense against the allegations that he raped and impregnated one of his slaves, Sally Hemings, which he absolutely, unequivocally was guilty of doing.

So she is correct in that some things never change — powerful rapists like Jefferson and Trump will stop at nothing to obfuscate, distract, and discredit the allegations against them, especially when they know they’re guilty of the crimes they’ve been accused of.

Social media immediately unloaded on Ivanka Trump for accidentally reinforcing her father’s guilt.
