Trump issues whiny complaint that the Democrats get more lawyers than he does: “Oh, that sounds fair!”

It’s the first Monday after Thanksgiving and Donald Trump is already back to doing the only thing he really knows how to do: incessantly whining and painting himself as an embattled victim.

Not surprisingly, the topic of this morning’s pathetic tweet was the ongoing impeachment inquiry.  The president has been wailing about the process since it began but has completely failed to come up with any credible defense, forced instead to rely on baseless smears that the entire undertaking is a “hoax” and unconvincing assertions that he did nothing wrong.

Of course, this impeachment is quite clearly not a hoax. We know that President Trump tried to abuse the powers of the Oval Office to coerce the Ukrainian president into drumming up an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden in the hopes of hurting his 2020 election chances. There are few things that would so clearly constitute a cut-and-dry impeachable offense.

Add your name to tell Congress to investigate Pence for his role in Trump’s Ukraine corruption. The VP is complicit!

Clearly running out of things complain about in the face of mounting evidence and damning testimonies, Trump scraped the bottom of the barrel today by taking aim at the number of lawyers afforded to the Democrats. “The Do Nothing Democrats get 3 Constitutional lawyers for their impeachment hoax” Trump tweeted, adding that they’ll “need them!” and that Republicans only get one.

“Oh, that sounds fair!” he sarcastically summarized.

For the umpteenth time, Trump’s rhetoric about impeachment necessitates a repeating of the simple fact that this is not a legal process right now, it’s a political one. He’s not on trial in the House of Representatives, that happens in the Senate and only if he is impeached in the House.

Constitutionally, the president has very little enumerated rights when it comes to impeachment at this stage. The process, how it’s handled, and what conveniences and lines of defense are afforded to Trump are largely the prerogatives of the House which — thanks to what might ultimately prove to be the most important mid-term election in American history — is firmly controlled by the Democrats and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In other words, Trump can complain about the number of impeachment lawyers all he wants, it doesn’t matter. Even if he had an army of them it wouldn’t change the fact that Democrats have him dead to rights on these impeachment changes. He can’t undo what he did, all he can do now is complain in vain about the consequences.
