Trump is caught on hot mic congratulating himself for calling Trudeau “two faced”

After Donald Trump canceled a previously scheduled press conference without warning during his visit to the NATO summit in London, speculation was rife that the president did so because he was upset over a video that showed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson while gently mocking Trump’s long Tuesday press conference as the other world leaders chuckled away.

That speculation was apparently confirmed after reporters overheard Trump speaking about the reaction that his abrupt cancellation of the news briefing would garner from the press and congratulating himself for the zinger he got in towards Prime Minister Trudeau in retaliation for his laughing at Trump’s bloviating.

The president didn’t realize that he was caught on a live microphone by multiple reporters in London while speaking to someone in his retinue and commenting on the anticipated reaction to his latest unpredictable move.

CNN‘s Jim Acosta relayed the contents of Trump’s overheard remarks in a Twitter post early this morning.

Trump had made the comment about the Canadian prime minister in an earlier encounter with reporters who sought his response to the video of Trudeau’s jocular reaction to the American president, as CNN‘s Betsy Klein tweeted earlier in the day.

In reality, Trudeau was explaining to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson the reason why Trump was late for his joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top — ‘Oh, ya, ya ya,” Mr Trudeau said. “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor,” he explained while mimicking the reaction of Trump’s staff.

Trump was apparently quite pleased with his comeback to the Canadian leader, but after Trudeau had mocked his lengthy banter with the press earlier in the NATO summit, the president decided to blow off the news conference scheduled for the end of the proceedings and hop on Air Force One to head back to the U.S., explaining that it was “because we did so many over the past two days.”

Who knew that NATO summits with the world’s top leaders could be so much like high school with gossip and mean kids?
