President Trump spent his afternoon lazily attempting to disguise a naked attack on energy-efficient appliances by offering up obviously contrived anecdotes and petty complaints about toilets and light bulbs. While his comments that “many people are complaining that they have to flush the toilet ten or fifteen times” made a splash in the media this afternoon, he also argued that “the new lightbulbs don’t make you look as good” and gives him an “orange look.”
TRUMP: “They got rid of the lightbulb that people got used to. The new bulb is many times more expensive. And I hate to say it — it doesn’t make you look as good. Being a vain person that’s very important to me. It gives you an orange look. I don’t want an orange look.” pic.twitter.com/geujwcUa8v

We wonder if he got confused with tanning beds and simply didn’t realize they were supposed to give him an orange look.
President Trump’s vanity and obsession with his appearance is notorious at this point in his life; his desperate efforts to maintain his images like his terrible haircut and the enormous ties he tapes to his belly have become national jokes. But it’s absolutely appalling to see him use jokes about his vanity to disparage energy-efficient lightbulbs for no reason.
