“Nancy’s teeth were falling out of her mouth”: Trump’s latest tweets verge on the surreal

One of the biggest problems compulsive liars face is keeping track of their falsehoods to maintain a consistent story.

When the volume of lies approaches the monumental level that Donald Trump issues on a daily basis, one would need either a mind like a steel trap or an extensive electronic database to keep everything straight.

With a mind more like plastic crap than a steel trap, Trump not surprisingly sometimes forgets what he’s previously claimed as truth and what he considers “Fake News.”

An example of the president’s brain fog came with his retweet of a post from one of his most fervent congressional attack dogs, Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), the man so unaware of his own surroundings that he claims to have missed the sexual misconduct being conducted under his very nose when he was the assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University.

Jordan tweeted a video clip of himself and his House Freedom Caucus colleague Congressman Mark Meadows appearing on MSNBC and discussing the infamous Steele dossier with the network’s Chuck Todd.

Add your name to demand Republicans stop repeating Putin’s dangerous propaganda to defend Trump’s crimes!

Jordan was trying to make a point about the dossier having been discredited by the Justice Department Inspector General’s report but had nonetheless be used to obtain the FISA warrant to spy on a member of Trump’s campaign staff.

Ignoring the fact that the investigations instigated by the warrant uncovered the serious wrongdoing that sent Trump Campaign chair Paul Manafort and the president’s personal attorney Michael Cohen to prison, among other guilty pleas elicited by the FBI and the subsequent Mueller investigation, Congressman Jordan makes his points as a defense against Trump’s impeachment, portraying the president as the “Witch Hunt” victim he likes to consider himself as.

Inexplicably, the president retweeted Rep. Jordan’s post with the comment “Fake News!” as its caption, implying that Jordan’s assertions were deliberate lies.

Whether it was a sudden burst of honesty from Trump, confusion over whether Jordan was actually defending him, or a poorly explained reaction to either Chuck Todd’s words or the Steele dossier itself is impossible to discern from the simple two-word comment, but in his haste to post yet another retweet from his stable of pugnacious defenders the president appears to put Congressman Jordan in the category usually reserved for CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post.

It was a strange tweet that was matched only by Trump’s bizarre post an hour later when he retweeted Representative Mark Meadows’ (R-NC) retweet of a post from The Hill that featured House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) discussing why Trump wasn’t also impeached on bribery counts in addition to the abuse of power and obstruction of Congress charges filed in the articles of impeachment.

While Meadows simply tries to claim that the charge wasn’t made because the president is innocent of the underlying crime implied, Trump offers a surreal explanation that only begs the question of why no one has invoked the 25th amendment already.

Apparently Trump is under the impression that rather than merely sucking on a cough drop to help clear her throat, Speaker Pelosi has some denture problems in the attached video clip.

It could be just another case of Trump engaging in the projection of his own experience upon others as his slurred words in public speeches have been attributed to slipping dentures on more than one occasion — as The Daily Show beautifully reminded us last year.

It could also be yet another sign of the president’s increasing mental deterioration as the stress of impeachment and the prospect of disgrace eat away at his already compromised psyche.
