Ayanna Pressley to DeVos after she compares being pro-choice to pro-slavery: “say this to my face”

Yesterday, Trump’s broadly despised Secretary of Education Betsy Davos made headlines by preposterously comparing being pro-choice to being pro-slavery. During a speech to Colorado Christian University at an event in D.C., the Secretary said that President Lincoln contended with “pro-choice arguments” during his time.

“They suggested that a state’s choice to be slave or to be free had no moral question in it. Well, President Lincoln reminded those pro-choicers that is a vast portion of the American people that do not look upon that matter as being this very little thing. They look upon it as a vast moral evil,” said Davos.

While this kind of vacuous rhetoric is certainly par for the course for this administration, it still must be condemned in no uncertain times. Not only are there no similarities between allowing women to have control over their own bodies and literally owning people, but the suggestion itself is a deeply offensive belittlement of slavery. It’s the kind of thing that only a complete ignoramus or the most cynical kind of pandering Republican would say. Best DeVos just so happens to be both.

Add your name to tell McConnell to allow impeachment witnesses. We demand Trump get a fair trial!

Unfortunately for our hack Education Secretary, Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-OH) read Davos’s idiotic comments and decided to weigh in.

“Dear Betsy,” she began. “As a Black woman & the Chair of the abortion task force, I invite you to come by the Hill and say this to my face. Would welcome the opportunity to educate you,” Pressley wrote.

Of course, like all members of this disgraceful administration, DeVos is a coward at heart. There is no way she has the courage to sit down with an intelligent woman like Pressley and defend her asinine opinions. Doing so would reveal her beliefs to be not only inane and arbitrary but deeply cruel.

Now, more than ever, we need advocates like Pressley to stand up for a woman’s right to choose. Just earlier today,  the Trump administration announced that it will be going after California over its abortion-coverage mandate. DeVos, and more importantly the ogre she works for, represent a dire threat to women across this country. This November is a pivotal moment for America, and there is no excuse not to vote to oust these monsters.
