Trump immediately shoots down Senator Collins’ claim that he “learned something” from impeachment

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but yesterday Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) tried to convince America that she believed otherwise of Donald Trump, a man considered by many to be less intelligent than their own aging best friends and more stubborn than the dumbest mule.

Defending her impending vote to acquit the president on the charges of abuse of power and obstruction of justice that the House Impeachment managers so ably provided incontrovertible proof of during the Senate trial, Senator Collins had this to say in an interview with CBS News:

“I believe that the president has learned from this case,” Senator Collins told Norah O’Donnell of CBS News in an interview today. “The president has been impeached. That’s a pretty big lesson.”

“He was impeached. And there has been criticism by both Republican and Democratic senators of his call,” she added, before exhibiting a credulity that belies her college education and long political pedigree. “I believe that he will be much more cautious in the future.”

It didn’t take the president very long to undermine the already dubious credibility of a supposedly moderate Republican Senator fighting for her political survival as the least popular member of the Senate.

During a pre-State of the Union luncheon held for members of the media — except for those Trump deemed “Fake News,” like CNN and The Washington Post —  the president was asked about Senator Collins’ awarding him a gold star for being so adept at absorbing the lesson that she claimed the impeachment process has taught Trump.

Add your name to tell the Senate: CONVICT DONALD TRUMP!

His response proved that the accolade for the president’s learning abilities was as undeserved as the Presidential Medal of Freedom that Trump awarded to hate-mongering radio shock jock Rush Limbaugh at last night’s State of the Union address.

Apparently the only lesson that Trump learned was that he could now get away with anything without an iota of consequence.

He replied to the word of Senator Collins’ pedagogical prediction by denying that he had done anything wrong, like the school bully complaining that the threat of detention after pushing the face of the freshman chess club member into a plate of school lunch mashed potatoes was unfair.

“It was a perfect call,” Trump said, repeating the same mendacious mantra one would have hoped he would have ceased after the proof of its extortionate nature was exposed repeatedly by the testimony of multiple witnesses during the House impeachment investigations.

With Trump set to surely be acquitted by the same compliant and complicit Republican Senators who stood and applauded his lie-filled State of the Union address last night, his arrogance and contempt for the rule of law remains unchecked and — rather than being chastened by the lasting stain of being only the third President in US history to be impeached — he is emboldened by his escape from all accountability for his actions and plotting revenge on his enemies.

This old dog has learned no new tricks and continues to defecate all over the House — and the Senate — with the uncontrollable incontinence that suggests it may be time to call the vet to take him to the farm upstate, as some parents would euphemistically describe the sudden disappearance of the old and mangy cur stinking up the family residence, or — in lieu of the deserved impeachment conviction and removal from office — its constitutional equivalent, the invocation of the 25th Amendment.
