Senator Mitt Romney has officially announced that he will vote to remove President Trump from office, making him not just the only Republican senator to do so, but the first senator in history to vote to remove a president of his own party.
ROMNEY announces he’s voting to convict Trump: “I will only be one name among many, no more, no less, to future generations who look at the record of this trial. They will note merely that I was among the senators who determined that what POTUS did was wrong — grievously wrong.” pic.twitter.com/i265qYzAoX

The senator’s decision serves to highlight how truly craven the rest of his party is. They know that Trump sought to undermine the 2020 election by trying to leverage military aid to Ukraine to coerce the Eastern European nation into opening sham investigations into Democrats like Joe Biden and are signaling that they simply don’t care.
The impeachment argument could not possibly be more ironclad. Voting to remove our corrupt president is a courageous act on Romney’s part, and he is well aware of the unhinged backlash he will face from the MAGA movement.

“I understand there’s going to be enormous consequence and I don’t have a choice in that regard. That’s why… That’s why I haven’t been anxious to be in the position I’m in,” Romney told Fox News.
Add your name to tell the Senate: CONVICT DONALD TRUMP!
The senator’s prediction has already been proven correct. Donald Trump Jr., the president’s pathetic little PR henchman, has unleashed a string of angry tweets at Romney in reaction to his impeachment announcement.
The First Son claimed that Romney is “forever bitter” over his failed presidential bid and accused him of “joining” Democrats. He added that the senator is now “officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the GOP.”
The truth, of course, is that Romney is the furthest thing from a Democrat. He is very much a conservative, he just refuses to go along with the cult-like obsequiousness that the rest of his party lavishes on the president. The senator is a dying breed. He represents a version of the Republican Party that cares about the rule of law and patriotism. There are very few individuals like him left within the GOP at this point. Trump has corrupted it to the core.
Mitt Romney is forever bitter that he will never be POTUS. He was too weak to beat the Democrats then so he’s joining them now.
He’s now officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the @GOP.

Trump Jr. followed the first tweet with one using the hashtag #ExpelMitt.

The First Son echoed the sentiment in another followup, calling for Senator Romney to be expelled from the Senate GOP conference.

He still wasn’t done there and fired off another tweet mocking Romney’s 2012 presidential defeat at the hands of Barack Obama. For the record: Donald Trump would have been handily beaten by Obama as well.
Mitt should have already learned this lesson in 2012, but he’s too desperate for affirmation from those who will never actually respect him. #ExpelMitt https://t.co/RIlwOi11ag

Trump Jr.’s tirade demonstrates an important reality of the modern Republican Party: it’s nothing more than a cult of personality. It has no principles, no purpose beyond indulging the whims of President Trump. Anyone who dares break ranks from the Glorious Leader will face the same fate as Romney. Such a toxic movement cannot be allowed to remain in power.
