On Monday evening, the president retweeted a clip from a recent episode of irreverent sketch comedy show Curb Your Enthusiasm that portrays a biker cursing and threatening main character Larry David.
The word “f*ck” is used seven times as someone who Trump sees as a “tough guy” verbally abuses an old Jewish man until he puts on one of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats, which immediately calms the biker down — the joke being that David keeps a MAGA hat for the express purpose of mollifying thugs and scumbags.

The joke, of course, flies over the president’s head along with any sense of decency and decorum. Trump has a long history of signaling to his supporters that violence on his behalf is acceptable, even once going so far as to promise to pay their legal fees for beating up a rally protestor.
If Trump had seen the rest of the episode, he would have seen how Larry David uses the hat to get himself out of confrontations with the worst, most obnoxious and abrasive people in Los Angeles. The entire thing is a negative commentary on his supporters, but as with the “basket of deplorables” comment, it appears Trump has decided to dig himself deep into the mud on every level.
