“A known white nationalist”: Democrats push resolution calling for firing of Trump advisor Stephen Miller

Democratic leaders in the Senate have embarked on their latest quixotic crusade against the Trump administration with a resolution calling for the resignation of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller after the revelation of emails that he sent to Breitbart News encouraging the right-wing extremist media site “to incorporate white supremacist, racist and eugenics ideologies in its news coverage.”

In a joint resolution with their colleagues in the House of Representatives, Democratic Senators urged Miller’s expulsion from the president’s staff despite the infinitesimal chances that the resolution would garner the necessary votes from the Republicans in the chamber to be approved and even lesser possibility that Donald Trump would pay any attention to it whatsoever besides tweeting about how it would impede upon the unlimited powers that he falsely believes that the Constitution bestows upon him.

The resolution calls for Miller’s dismissal “for trafficking in bigotry, hatred and divisive political rhetoric and for promoting policies that are inconsistent with the trust and confidence placed in him as a senior advisor to the president.” It quoted a former Breitbart editor who said that the presidential advisor would attempt to “spin a narrative where immigrants of color were not only dangerous, violent individuals but also posed an existential threat to America.”

Add your name to tell the ABA: Disbar William Barr for abusing the Justice Department to abet Trump’s corruption!

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) — a sponsor of the resolution along with Senators Markey (D-MA), Wyden (D-OR), Booker (D-NJ), and Blumenthal (D-CT) — had this to say about the shame of having such an avowed white nationalist in a senior advisory position to the president.

“Stephen Miller is the hateful force behind the cruel and xenophobic policies that have defined the Trump administration. His white supremacist, anti-immigrant ideology has no place in our country, let alone the White House. I’m proud to lead this effort on behalf of immigrant families in California and throughout the country,” Harris boasted.

Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX) — one of the primary advocates of the resolution in the House of Representatives, along with Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA), Karen Bass (D-CA), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Don Beyer (D-VA) and Brad Schneider (D-IL) — was also unequivocal in his condemnation of Miller.

“It is unacceptable for the Trump administration to knowingly install a known white nationalist and believer of white supremacist ideology in a position of power and influence over federal policy,” Castro said in a statement.

“When we see the families suffering at the border or being torn apart by ICE raids, we can look to Stephen Miller as the main architect of the administration’s cruel anti-immigrant policies,” Castro, the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, added.

While Democrats are unlikely to garner much support for their resolution from the Republicans in Congress, at least one Fox News pundit is likely to agree with them. Back when the story of Miller’s emails to Breitbart first broke, Fox News political analyst Juan Williams wrote a scathing commentary on Miller’s efforts to promote notions of white superiority.

“It can’t be quickly dismissed by the far-right as the excesses of ‘snowflakes,’ who can’t handle policy arguments without playing the race card. And this is not about ‘cancel culture,’ the over-reaction to a slip of the tongue, calling out offensive language by a comedian or a commentator,” Williams, one of the few African-American on-air personalities on Fox News, argued.

That Stephen Miller should be removed from the White House staff— like the many other enablers of Trump and his hateful policies such as Attorney General William Barr, Education Secretary Betsy Devos, Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, and so many more — is undeniable by any but the most xenophobic Americans.

But the many-headed hydra of Trumpism won’t be defeated until the maniac-in-chief himself is removed from office in any legal manner feasible and as soon as possible.
