White House Dr. Birx gives absurd excuse for Trump’s disinfectant comments: He was having a “dialogue”
Donald Trump now wants us to believe that his completely sincere suggestion at yesterday’s White House press conference that injecting disinfectants into the human body might help fight COVID-19 were, in fact, sarcastic.
“I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen,” the president said to a journalist earlier today. “I was asking a sarcastic, and a very sarcastic question, to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside,” he added shortly after. The explanation is obviously rubbish as even a cursory review of footage from the presser shows.
Trump’s aides were reportedly blindsided by his idiotic pronouncement. Apparently, Trump was a bit confused by some information he received before going in front of the cameras. He was told how coronavirus living on surfaces can be killed with disinfectant and removed from human hands by sanitizer. While trying to discuss this fact “the president took it a couple steps further” said one official.
The plain fact here is that the President of the United States is a blithering ignoramus with all the intellectual firepower of a gerbil. Since we now live in an Orwellian world where facts are actively and gleefully denied by the White House though, it should come as little surprise that government officials are twisting themselves into knots to defend Trump’s remarks.
Dr. Birx, Trump’s Coronavirus Response Coordinator, appeared on Fox News today and tried to handwave the criticisms away by claiming that the president was simply “digesting” the information he received before giving the presser.
“When he gets new information he likes to talk that through out loud and really have that dialogue and so that’s what dialogue he was having,” Birx said. “I think he just saw the information at the time, immediately before the press conference and he was still digesting that information,” she went on.
Birx’s defense is obviously complete rubbish. This is the president, not a five-year-old child. He shouldn’t need time to “digest” the idea that injecting disinfectants into the human body is a deranged, dangerous idea. He wasn’t having a “dialogue” with himself, he was speaking to the American people in the midst of a devastating pandemic. Even by Trumpian standards, Birx’s explanation is absurd.
