Trump’s afternoon Twitter tirades explain why he ceased holding his news briefings

With Donald Trump and his reelection campaign team now realizing that his lengthy daily press briefings have been counterproductive and that it would be politically inadvisable to continue them after the furor that his bonkers public musings over the effectiveness of disinfectant as an internal treatment for coronavirus infections, the president now has a lot of time on his hands.

Apparently no one told Trump that his tweets can be just as politically damaging as his televised appearances have been, demonstrating an equally ill-informed leader whose every statement oozes resentment, anger, and mental instability.

After a grudge-powered social media binge in the morning, the president returned to Twitter this afternoon with a post that explained his own reasoning behind yesterday’s truncated press briefing in which Trump bailed out as quickly as possible without allowing a single reporter to ask him questions about his previous day’s demonstrably idiotic bleach bombshell.

Perhaps —if he wanted people to parse his thought process accurately — the president should have phrased that improperly-punctuated question along the lines of:

“Why should I even talk to the press if they insist on bringing up facts contrary to what I want them to believe and thoughtlessly transmit to the gullible public? They get record ratings & I get consistently falling poll numbers the longer this pandemic goes on and more people subsequently die, all while I look like an incompetant dunce.”

Not only were those briefings not worth Trump’s time and effort, but their discontinuance is also the one ray of positive news in the otherwise bleak rising death tolls that the public must deal with hearing every day while stuck in quarantine.

While the president seemed to have plenty of time to compose his tweets in the absence of the daily press conferences, he was tone-deaf to the implications of his next tweet on his previous speculation about the use of ultraviolet light and disinfectants inside the human body to fight the COVID-19 virus.

If only someone had mentioned this to Trump before he made the remarks that inspired a doubling of calls to New York City’s Poison Control Center after the people who heard them decided to try the household cleaning products on their own virus-ridden bodies.

Trump is perhaps realizing that his tardy response to the pandemic is the biggest political vulnerability he has ever faced — one that no amount of assistance from Russia, China, Saudi Arabi, or Ukraine can help him recover from.

He returned to Twitter to repeat for the umpteenth time that he never called the coronavirus a “Hoax,” but was merely pointing out that Democrats blaming his inaction for his utter failures in confronting the outbreak was what he was referring to in using the word.

Trump’s sudden insistence that his opposition be precise in their language contrasts sharply with his own wanton ways with words (covfefe, anyone?) and does nothing to mitigate the fact that he downplayed the risks of the virus consistently from his January 22nd statement that “We have it totally under control” to his February 25th press conference statement that “I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away” — adding, erroneously, “We’re very close to a vaccine” — to his statement the very next day when he said that “within a couple of days [the number of cases] is going to be down to close to zero,” and compared the virus to the common flu.

Democrats may not have called the president a “Hoax,” but there is no doubt that he is a hoax of a president that is all too real.

The earth is the host. Humans are the virus. And COVID-19 is Mother Nature’s way of telling us something’s wrong, acting as Earth’s own anti-viral agent to reduce damage to the overpopulated, overpolluted, climate-disaster-bound planet.

And that, my friends, is no hoax.  It’s what’s happening around us right now.
