Trump’s new press secretary holds her first White House briefing, immediately Spicers it

Accepting a job offer to become Donald Trump’s Press Secretary is tantamount to announcing to the world that you’re willing to become a professional liar in return for money and influence. Kayleigh McEnany is just the latest opportunist to assume this ignoble mantle previously held by such paragons of dishonesty as Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders.  Today she held her first White House press briefing.

The event started off on a ludicrous note as McEnany pledged to always tell journalists the truth during her briefings. Of course, McEnany will absolutely lie to reporters and the country regularly. Her entire job boils down to spewing pro-Trump misinformation to help his poll numbers. There is no room for honesty in this administration.

It didn’t take long for McEnany to make it clear that she has no interest in telling the truth. When asked about allegations against Joe Biden, McEnany lept at the chance to defend Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a man who was credibly accused of sexual assault.

She said the discourse around his alleged misconduct was a “grave miscarriage of justice” and falsely claimed that the allegations were “salacious, awful, and verifiably false.” The reality is that the accusations against Kavanaugh weren’t disproven, Republicans just chose to ignore them and seat him on the court anyway.

McEnany was asked why the numerous allegations of sexual misconduct leveled at Trump are less credible than the one made by Biden’s accuser.

“The president has swiftly denied all of these allegations that were raised four years ago. He has always told the truth on these issues,” McEnany said in defense of her infamously mendacious boss.

“He’s denied them immediately and you’re bringing up issues, like I said from four years ago, that were asked and answered,” she went on. “And the American people had their say in the matter when they elected President Trump as President of the United States.”

“But you know the media, leave it to the media, to really take an issue about the former vice president and turn it on the president and bring up accusations from four years ago that were asked and answered in the form of the vote of the American people,” she added, pivoting to the kind of anti-free press rhetoric that we’ve come to expect from Donald Trump himself.

McEnany rounded out the presser by lying and claiming that the Russia probe ended in the “complete and total exoneration” of President Trump. In reality, the probe ended in numerous indictments and convictions, including that of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not conclude that the president was innocent, just that there was insufficient evidence to proceed against him.

Clearly, McEnany has a long career of lying ahead of her.
