Donald Trump may be trying to paint a portrait of former Vice President Joe Biden, his likely opponent in the presidential race, as a senile old man but it may not be the most effective strategy given his own mental lapses as he demonstrated today.
Granted, Trump is starting from a much lower base level of intelligence and rationality than Biden has ever sunken to, so it’s more difficult to measure just how far his cognition has deteriorated in percentage terms. After all, it’s impossible to measure fractions of zero.
Still, you know things are going downhill when Trump can’t even keep his combative talking points straight and mixes them up by using his Biden attacks against the man who publicly outclassed and demolished the current president in the rhetorical eloquence department during the virtual commencement addresses he conducted this past weekend, his much-missed predecessor, Barack Obama.
Trump lapsed into incoherence when he was asked about Attorney General William Barr’s statement this morning that he doesn’t expect to be opening a criminal investigation against either Obama or Biden as part of the investigations of the origins of the investigation of the Trump campaigns ties to the proven Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

And this man makes fun of Joe Biden’s occasional verbal gaffes?
This is, after all, the man who couldn’t even find his own limo when he was standing right in front of it.
This is a man whose own verbal mishaps have provided fodder for many a mocking YouTube post.
This is the man who says that he has “the best words.”
This is the man who just today announced that he has been popping hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug he continuously promoted as a possible cure for COVID-19 despite the increasing medical evidence it is not only ineffective but can actually lead to life-threatening heart arrhythmias.
Who will now claim that the invocation of the 25th Amendment isn’t immediately necessary?
