Trump vows to protect “crown jewel of American democracy — the rule of law” in incongruous speech
It’s an old joke to ask how you can tell when Donald Trump is lying — the answer, for those few who haven’t heard it before, is that he’s moving his lips or typing into a mobile phone with the Twitter app open.
But anyone who values the rule of law in this country — a rule that Trump and his administration have demonstrated their contempt for time and again in their deeds and their actions designed to undermine the justice system in America, at least at it applies to their own corrupt activities — will be further horrified by the hypocrisy of the president’s remarks today in a speech at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida after the launch of the first manned liftoff of a rocket built by a private company, SpaceX.
Commenting on the unrest inspired by the plain sight murder of an unarmed black man by four Minneapolis police officers in the past week, Trump tried to reclaim the crown of being the champion of law and order in these turbulent times.
“It is essential that we protect the crown jewel of American democracy — the rule of law and our independent system of justice,” Trump declared, using an expanded vocabulary that instantly identified his comments as a speech written by someone other than himself.
Anyone who doesn’t get the supreme irony of that statement being uttered by a man who has done more to undermine the norms of our nation’s judicial system than any other president in American history should be immediately be required to read both volumes of the Mueller Report, read Trump’s list of pardon’s granted, and read every newspaper report on the activities of Attorney General William Barr since he came on board as Trump’s personal presidential fixer.
The list of the president’s potentially criminal activities just while in office includes those activities that led to the abbreviated list of his misdeeds included in the two articles of impeachment drawn up by the House of Representatives late last year.
How many Republican Senators are now regretting their refusal to call witnesses and subpoena further documentation in Trump’s impeachment trial — as well as their votes for acquittal — now that the president has destroyed both the nation’s health and its economy with his pitiful response to the COVID-19 pandemic, making their own electoral futures look mighty dim in the process?
Of course, anyone delving into Donald Trump’s pre-presidential activities will see allegations of tax fraud, rape and sexual assault, refusal to pay contractors, association with known members of the Russian mafia, charity fraud, and many other extra-legal accusations.
Trump comes not to praise the American independent system of justice, but to bury it, despite his words to the contrary.
The day that the president becomes subject to a faithfully executed rule of law in America to many will only be realized when he himself is faithfully and finally executed for treason for everything he has done to implement Vladimir Putin’s agenda to weaken our country in his “allegedly” soul-selling deal to win the presidency.
If you haven’t met your anger quota for the day, simply watch the videos of Trump’s speech at NASA today attached below and you’ll generate enough anger to last you for weeks…or at least enough to tide you over to the president’s next tweet or press conference.
