Trump is mercilessly mocked after claiming that he was inspecting nuclear bunker during protests

Over the weekend, as protests against police brutality gripped cities all over the country, buildings burned, and a crowd of demonstrators gathered outside the White House to voice their anger against our policing systems and the president himself, Donald Trump fled like a coward to his bunker, mimicking the last act of most failed dictators in the process.

The spineless decision to hide during a serious crisis dealt a devastating blow to Trump’s manufactured image of being a “tough guy” and prompted him to overcompensate on Monday by having protestors tear-gassed and violently dispersed to facilitate a photo op stroll to a local Church. In many ways, it was an even greater sign of weakness than his bunker cowering because it showed how terrified he is to even be around the crowds of peaceful protestors he is sworn to protect.

The optics of his little bunker escapade seem to still be dominating his thoughts because today he addressed them during a Fox radio interview with perennial conservative hack Brian Kilmeade. With his usual fondness for dishonesty, Trump dismissed the credible reports of his bunker sheltering as “a false report.”

Add your name to tell states and police to reject Trump’s calls to use violence against peaceful protestors!

Absurdly, Trump tried to sell the idea that he actually descended into the bunker for an “inspection” of its facilities and insisted it was during the day, not at night as reported.

“I went down during the day and I was there for a tiny, little, short period of time and it was much more for inspection. These problems are during the night, not during the day,” said the president. “I’ve gone two or three times, all for inspection,” he added.

Why exactly the president himself, a reality television star, would need to “inspect” a reinforced structure designed by experts and engineers is a detail he failed to expound on. Trump then insisted that the protests outside the White House were not the impetus for the bunker visit.

“There was never a problem. Nobody ever came close to giving us a problem. The Secret Service does an unbelievable job of maintaining control of the White House,” he claimed. He went on to insist that his protection detail never suggested that he should shelter from the protests. “They didn’t tell me that at all. But they said it would be a good time to go down, take a look, because maybe sometime you’re going to need it,” said the president.

Unfortunately for our pathologically mendacious commander-in-chief, not everyone in his inner circle is toeing the party line. CNN reports that several sources familiar with the incident dispute Trump’s account of events. They claim Trump, First Lady Melania, and their son Barron were sheltered in the bunker for roughly an hour as the protests raged outside.

As soon as Trump’s ridiculous “inspection” story hit Twitter he was inundated with mockery.
