Washington Post reporter alleges Melania lied about graduating college, plastic surgery, languages spoken
A new book about First Lady Melania Trump has revealed the real reason it took her so long to move into the White House after Trump’s election. While she publicly claimed it was so that her son Barron could finish out his school year, it turns out that behind the scenes she was re-negotiating her pre-nuptial agreement.
Melania was furious over the embarrassing allegations of rampant infidelity and sexual assault that were unearthed during the election, says Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan, and decided to use the moment to secure the existence of her bag and a future for her white son.
The Post reports that “the incoming first lady needed time to cool off, and ‘to amend her financial arrangement with Trump — what Melania referred to as ‘taking care of Barron.’”
What that really meant was making sure that Barron wouldn’t be cut out of the family fortune by Trump’s other children. “She wanted proof in writing that when it came to financial opportunities and inheritance, Barron would be treated as more of an equal to Trump’s oldest three children.”
She had extra bargaining power because of her “perceived calming effect” on the perpetually volatile and uncontrollable Trump; his other children tried to get her to the White House as quickly as possible as things immediately began spiraling out of control.
On top of that interesting tidbit, Jordan discovers that just like Trump, much of Melania’s backstory — prepare to be shocked — just isn’t true. Like Trump, she enjoyed fudging the details and rewriting history to suit her.
Jordan discovered that Melania often would lie to reporters about her age, claimed she had never had plastic surgery despite photographers noticing scars, said she had a bachelor’s degree despite never having graduated, and said she could speak “four or five” languages despite nobody ever hearing her do so.
“The mythmaking, Jordan writes, began early, when she would fail to correct reporters who cited her age incorrectly, always younger than she was. Despite saying she wouldn’t get plastic surgery, three photographers who worked with her said they’ve seen the scars.
She attended a highly competitive architecture program at the University of Ljubljana, but did not graduate, though she claimed in sworn testimony to have a bachelor’s degree.
There’s also little evidence to suggest her claims of being able to speak four or five languages fluently are true.”
But the most important tidbits from the Washington Post report center around Trump’s political career. Far from being a passive observer along for the ride, Melania has been one of Trump’s most enthusiastic supporters and helped convince him to run for president in the first place.
“There is ample evidence that from the very beginning…Melania not only accepted and embraced Trump’s political aspirations but was also an encouraging partner” writes Jordan.
Roger Stone, the notorious Republican operative and Trump crony, told Jordan that Melania was “the one who ultimately said: ‘You know, Donald, stop talking about running for president and do it. … And if you run, you’re going to win.’”
While there wasn’t much chance of a “rehabilitate Melania” movement after Trump is ousted from office this November, this new book squashes that forever. It paints a stark picture of a woman as ambitious and ruthless as Trump who has been complicit in every heinous thing he’s done, and we need to make sure that the whole country knows it.
