Attendees in a panic after Don Jr. and his COVID-positive girlfriend attend their maskless party

We all have regrets.

Some are fairly minor.

I shouldn’t have eaten that third donut. I should have taken that other route where there was no construction traffic. I shouldn’t have worn that plaid jacket with those polka dot pants…or, well, with anything, actually.

Some are more deeply rooted or have more serious consequences.

I shouldn’t have lost my temper with my child. I should have smelled that moldy piece of pork before undercooking it and scarfing it down. I should have remembered to buy more toilet paper. I should have gone to college. I shouldn’t have polished that bottle of vodka off and decided to call my ex.

Now in the age of COVID-19, some regrettable actions are causing more deadly repercussions as people frustrated with weeks of isolation and sheltering in place emerge back out into the great wide world without taking proper precautions and resume their previous habits without the recommended face masks or social distancing, leading to an infection curve in the United States that is steeper and more frightening than the tallest roller coaster.

The New York Post is reporting today about some folks who have massive regrets about attending a party in the New York vacation haven of the Hamptons at the end of June.

The reason that the party-goers are “freaking out,” as The Post describes their current mental state, is that the party — a defiant maskless affair — was also attended by Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, the former Fox News anchor Kimberly Guilfoyle, the latter of whom tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after flying to South Dakota for Donald Trump Sr.’s “Mt. RussiaMore” speech, which doubled as a coronavirus petri dish.

According to Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper’s Page Six gossip website, the right-wing power couple “were the guests of honor at a Bridgehampton house party that looked ‘as if COVID had never happened.’”

About 100 attendees are now taking their temperatures every day and trying to make appointments for tests to see if they’ve contracted the virus from Typhoid Kimberly at the party, which was hosted by a Hamptons construction magnate too foolish to follow CDC guidelines.

With new COVID-19 cases averaging up to 50,000 per day across the country, they have plenty of reason to worry, as does anyone else who hasn’t already contracted the virus and is stupid enough to believe that they are immune to its effects.

The “maskholes” — who selfishly refuse to consider their own health and that of those around them and continue to attend crowded private parties in defiance of any sane and safe behavioral practices during this plague — may now be belatedly regretting their wantonly reckless actions.

As the hapless party attendees check their phones waiting for their test results, let’s serenade them with the anthem of irresponsible individuality that they likely use as their credo, starting with the middle verse.

“Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each chartered course
Each careful step along the byway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way.”
