Trump gleefully mocks Portland mayor for getting teargassed by his agents

Scenes of shocking violence continue to unfold night after night as Trump’s Department of Homeland Security goons clash with peaceful protesters in Portland, Oregon. Even the Mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, was caught in the crossfire two nights ago, getting hosed with tear gas along with the rest of the “Wall of Moms” and other Black Lives Matter protesters.

The president’s reaction to that disturbing event makes it clear that the violence and the brutality is the intended consequence. Gloating and laughing, Trump told Sean Hannity that Wheeler had “made a fool out of himself…He wanted to be among the people so he went into the crowd and they knocked the hell out of him. That was the end of him. So it was pretty pathetic.”

The mayor was appalled by the behavior of the police and the federal agents Trump sent to quell the unrest.

“I’m not going to lie — it stings; it’s hard to breathe. And I can tell you with 100 percent honesty, I saw nothing which provoked this response” said Wheeler to the New York Times, calling it an “egregious overreaction” and that what he saw was “flat out urban warfare.”

It’s clear that Trump relishes the idea of people getting “the hell” knocked out of them, his sadistic streak on full display. Unable to conceive of a way to escape the labyrinth of loserdom that he wandered into under his own power, his only remaining source of gratification comes from watching his jack-booted thugs inflicting pain and suffering on people demanding recognition for the fundamental humanity of Black Americans.

If this is what he’s doing with the election only months away, we shudder to think of how he might behave should he win a second term. We must do everything in our power to ensure that he doesn’t get another chance to drag this nation even further into the dirt.
